Industrial
Energy and industrial construction
Industrial buildings have to work as workplaces before they look like anything. Access, spans and the office attached to the shop are the decisions that matter.
Chapter 01
Pre-engineered metal and where it makes sense
For shops and warehouses a pre-engineered metal structure is usually the sensible answer. It spans wide without interior columns, goes up quickly and costs less per square foot than masonry, which is why so much of the Elk City energy work takes that form.
It does not have to look like a shed. A masonry base, a considered entrance and decent proportions turn the same structure into a building a company is happy to put its name on.

Bays, doors and yard access
The building is only half the problem. What determines whether an industrial site works is whether the largest vehicle that visits can get in, turn, load and get out without a three-point turn every time.
Bay width and height, overhead door sizing and clear height inside all follow from the equipment that will actually be used. Those dimensions are worth confirming against real vehicles rather than assumed ones.
Chapter 03
Office space attached to a working shop
Most of these buildings carry an office on the front. It shares a structure with a working shop, which means noise, dust and temperature all have to be dealt with at the boundary between the two.
It is also the part visitors see. Giving the office its own decent entrance, its own daylight and a proper separation from the shop floor costs very little at design stage and changes how the whole site reads.
