Bank work is unusually specific. The public side, the staff side and the secure side all have to work without getting in each other's way, and the building has to look permanent while it does it.
Chapter 01
Vault, drive-through and after-hours zoning
A branch is really three buildings sharing a roof. There is the public lobby, the staff area behind it, and the secure zone, and each one needs a different level of access at a different time of day. Get the zoning wrong and the staff spend twenty years walking the long way around.
The drive-through drives a surprising amount of the site plan. It sets the approach, the stacking distance and often the position of the building on the lot. The after-hours envelope matters just as much: which doors and which machines stay reachable when the lobby is locked, and how that is separated from everything that should not be.

Building while the branch stays open
Banks rarely get to close. Additions and renovations get phased so the lobby and the drive-through keep working, which means a hard separation between the work and the public, a construction entrance that does not use customer parking, and any service switchover planned into the quietest window available.
The parts that cannot be worked around get scheduled well ahead and communicated rather than sprung on the staff. That is the difference between a disruptive job and one the customers barely register.
Chapter 03
Masonry and roof detailing built to outlast the sign
Bank buildings tend to outlive the name on the front. Two of the branches on this list carry brick and standing-seam metal for exactly that reason: both handle western Oklahoma weather with very little attention, and neither fades.
The durability is in the detailing rather than the material. Flashing, the drainage path through the masonry wall, and the allowance for a metal roof to move with temperature are what decide whether a wall is sound in year twenty.
